Winterlude Sunday Afternoon
Skating on the Rideau Canal is one of the most popular activities in Ottawa during February and March. Here I have used a special imaging technique to yield the full range of color in the shot and produce a print reminiscent of an old postcard.
At the left is the National Arts Center (NAC); to the far right is the Chateau Laurier hotel; centered is Canada's Parliament. This is "the world's longest skating rink", stretching 7.5 kilometers from the bridge you see in the photo.
The green-roofed structures on the ice sell "beavertails", poutine and other refreshments; the red-roofed building is a warming hut. Great winter fun!
